Underground Storage
Choctaw - PetroLogistics’ principal salt dome storage facilities are located in the Choctaw area of Louisiana near Plaquemine. At this location, the company currently has approximately 40 million barrels of available storage capacity in 7 active caverns, 2 inactive caverns fully equipped for hydrocarbon storage and 2 additional caverns available for hydrocarbon storage. The active caverns are currently in service storing ethylene, ethane, E/P mix, and natural gas for a variety of customers.
The Choctaw site is connected to all the major ethylene pipeline systems in Louisiana and serves as an exchange point for most of the major producers and consumers of ethylene in the region. With 1.2 billion pounds of ethylene storage capacity and 300,000 lbs/hour drying capability, the Choctaw site represents a significant transportation and storage hub for the U. S. Gulf Coast ethylene market.
There is also a substantial amount of unutilized capacity at Choctaw available for storage of other feed stocks, LPG products, and natural gas. PetroLogistics is currently developing a number of projects to utilize this additional capacity to match the growing production of domestic natural gas.
Sulphur - At its Sulphur underground storage location near Lake Charles, the company has one active storage well in ethylene service and significant additional capacity available for development. In addition, in 2009, Petrologistics began operation of a depropanizer facility linked to a LNG import facility operated by Trunkline for British Gas.
